For a long time, most of the English-speaking Hellsing fandom hadn't even heard of Pip Bernadotte. With the translation of the manga, he's at last taking his place among fan favorites.

After the Valentine Brothers attack in the TV series, the storyline dives into the leadup to the Incognito-central climax, leaving more than a few fans upset. In the manga, Jan gives the organization a key clue upon his death, with the taunt "Happy Millennium!" The story then plunges into conflict with the real bad guys of the series: the Millennium Nazis.

It's also right after this split that the manga Hellsing organization, rather than just lowering its standards to hire more people from the regular army, replenishes its forces by hiring a group of mercenaries. They're loyal to money, but the Wild Geese are also top-class fighters. Their leader: Captain Pip Bernadotte.

He wears a patch over one eye and usually ties his long unkempt orange hair in a loose braid. He's more laid-back than just about anyone else in Hellsing, with the possible exception of Walter - but that doesn't mean he's any less skilled. He freaks out when he first realizes that vampires are real, but adjusts quickly and ends up good-naturedly teasing her whenever possible. He's the kind of cheerful rogue that you can't help like. And did we mention he's French?

On the field Pip is more than competent, good at thinking on the fly and strategizing. Off of it, he's a generally nice guy, but a pain in the neck to Seras. (She'll return the favor.)

Hosting by ComicGenesis (awesome); Hellsing by Kōta Hirano (also awesome).
