Enrico Maxwell

The head of Section XIII, Enrico Maxwell answers directly to the Pope. And he's quite young, too - not including a few of the bad guys, he's the only current true bishōnen in the series. He had the talent and ambition to get and hold such a high position at this age, and that shouldn't be forgotten.

It's kind of an easy thing to forget.

Enrico's a hypocrite and, occasionally, a bully. He hassles Hellsing, insults Integral, and misses no opportuity to sic Anderson on Alucard. He's a religious fanatic and lets that get in the way of his effectiveness, plus what could be a very healthy and mutually beneficial relationship with the Royal Protestant Knights. He's snarky and snippish and all-around childish.

When he was an actual child, Enrico was left by his parents in Anderson's care; left out by the other children at the orphanage, he developed a wicked sense of ambition. Not only has he risen to the top of Iscariot, he gladly plays Hellsing and Millennium off against each other, sending the Church in to pick up the pieces.

A combination of faith, pride, conviction, and ambition keep Enrico going. His subordinates - fanatics themselves - respect him and love him, as much as Integral's do. They're left with a tough choice when he finally goes over the edge.

Why love Enrico? Because he's like Integral gone wrong. It's fun to watch him try to intimidate her and humiliate her: like Wile E. Coyote, his attempts always blow up in his face, but he keeps trying.

Besides, nobody else has that special Enrico smirk.
